Cough is one symptom of the lung problems. Cough may occur from exogenous pathogenic factors or diseases of other organs involving the lungs. The lung is attacked by the exogenous pathogenic factors, the qi of the lung is blocked and fails to descend, thus resulting in cough. Wind-cold invasion to the lung causes symptoms; cough, itching of the throat, aversion to cold, headache, etc. Wind-heat invasion to the lung causes symptoms; cough with yellow, thick sputum, thirst, heat, yellow tongue, etc. If spleen fails in its function, it blocks the lung by phlegm. This causes cough with profuse, white and sticky sputum. If lung is attacked by dryness, this causes dry cough without sputum or with scanty sputum, dryness of the nose and throat.

The classic points for wind-heat and wind-cold are LU 7, LI 4, BL 13, LU 11 and GV 14. The points for the blockage of the lung by phlegm are BL13, CV 12, LU 5, and ST 40. The miracle points for yin deficiency with lung dryness are BL 13, LU 1, LU 7 and KI 6. However, cough should be differential diagnosed from other disease like bronchitis, pneumonia or common cold. Acupuncture can relieve your cough. If you need help, please contact Dr Kim.
