- Shoulder sprain and strain occurs with motor vehicle accident or sports and other physical activities. Many of the shoulder problems involve one or more forms of rotator mechanism dysfunction. This chronic biomechanical continuum usually begins with dysfunction of the rotator cuff muscles and progresses to rotator cuff syndrome; supraspinatus tendinitis; impingement syndrome; subdeltoid and subacromial bursitis; calcific shoulder bursitis; and even most cases of frozen shoulder and bicipital tendinitis.
In the acupuncture treatment for shoulder sprain/strain, ashi points are selected as the principal points. Local and distal points of involved meridians are used to ease tendon and increase blood circulation or decreasing swelling and pain in combined with cupping and moxibustion.
The classical points for shoulder injuries are SI 9, SI 10, SI 12, SI 3, LI 4, LI 15, GB 21, LV 3, GB 34 and LU2. Your shoulder sprain and strain injuries usually respond well to acupuncture. An rehabilitation training should be started early in the treatment of patients with shoulder sprain and strain injuries, generally after ligaments and connective tissues have repaired sufficiently. The functional problems, biomechanical alignment problems and postural factors of spine should be considered for the proper treatment. If you need help, please contact Dr Kim.
