 Does NCV Studies and EMG Test Hurt?

  • Yes, there is some discomfort at the time the needle electrodes are inserted. They feel like shots (intramuscular injections), although nothing is injected during an EMG. After studies, the muscle may feel a little sore for up to a few days.
  • The test is not invasive, but can be a little painful due to the electrical shocks. The shocks are associated with a low amount of electrical current so they are not dangerous to any patient.
